Ducks of Fun!
"Rubber ducky, you're the one. You make auctions lots of fun. Rubber ducky I'm awfully fond of you!" Sesame Street's Ernie would love this upcoming charity event.
Local and national celebrities fight hunger in a very different sort of way, by participating in The Detroit Duck Derby. That's right, you read correctly, The Detroit Duck Derby. This event is part of Gleaners Community Food Bank's Auction during the Fall Harvest Family Event.
So what exactly is this charity event? Celebrities embellish rubber ducks that will be put on the auction block. Volunteers will be selling racing ducks for $5, as well as event packages to the 15th annual Fall Harvest Family Event. Last year's Celebriduck Auction raised over $4,000, which benefited children and their families.
There are over 20 celebrities that will be participating in this fun event, which include local celebrities such as; Tatum Bell, Carmen Harlan, Mary Kramer, Jason Maxiell and many more. There will also be nationally recognized personalities decorating ducks, from Bill Cosby to Desperate Housewives' Marcia Cross, Betty White, Wentworth Miller from Prison Break and others.
The Celebridick Auction will be at Leon & Lulu's in Clawson, Tuesday, September 9 from 6-9 p.m. These ducks will then be racing at The Detroit Duck Derby on Sunday, September 14 on Belle Isle. The public is invited and encouraged to participate in the fundraiser to support Gleaners' Summer Lunches for Children campaign.
Leon and Lulu's will serve up appetizers and a cash bar for the auction. Guests are welcome to browse the store's wide selection of housing and personal accessories with a portion of the evening's sales benefiting the non-profit.
Leon & Lulu's is located at 96 W. 14 Mile Road, Clawson, MI 48017.
