Have Some Laughs
The third Wednesday of every month isn't typical of The Park Bar in downtown Detroit. In the little known upstairs venue of the bar, numerous local talents are showcased including funny guys Improv Brovaz.
What began as a practice night for the group has turned into a comedy routine that promises to entertain all who witness it.
The upstairs floor of The Park Bar is currently being renovated and is on its way to a gorgeous outcome. A stage, tables and chairs, and a bar complete the setting for an awesome venue to display the side-splitting performance of the Improv Brovaz.
Comprised of actors from the Detroit area including many Wayne State University Alumni, the group debuted early this year. With it's home in The Park Bar, they've really been able to grow with provided rehearsal and performance space and have become part of the character of the bar, in turn, hoping to establish it as a cultural and theatrical movement.
The group's routine consists of mainly improvisation where they will basically go off of a word the audience throws out and do the whole show. With about a 15 minute intermission for beer refills, they come back and mix it up a bit and ask for another word and finish up. This makes for an incredibly creative show and keeps them and the audience on their toes the entire time.
The Improv Brovaz stands out from other comedic ensembles as a real "home-grown" group. With a great interest in the progression of arts in the city, the Improv Brovaz want to be able to look back on their experience in the group and realize just how special it was to be a part of.
With downtown Detroit in need of more artistic outlets, the Improv Brovaz are carving the path. Their combination of comedy and loyalty to their city make for an endearing cast. Their next show is October 15 and with no admission fee, it a great place to be on a Wednesday night. So snag a PBR from the bar and a seat up close to soak up every bit of hilariousness this group has to offer. With an undisclosed pride, Improv Brovaz Director, Mike Targus sums up the group in a single sentence saying, "It's a theatre based in honesty and truth providing an unadulterated view of life which in a sense reminds us that we don't always need to take life so seriously."
