Head to the Library!
Are you a bookworm? Do you find yourself going deeper and deeper in debt from buying all the latest Oprah Book Club Favorites? Well, put down that credit card we have a solution for you that will feed your reading addiction, cost you no money, save trees and help your community all at once. We're sending you to your local library!
Why is it that so many of us cringe at the word library? Since kiddies in elementary school libraries have been a place of obligation and boredom.
Years later, with the same image instilled in our minds, we forget that there is so much more to the library than forced quiet voices. It's filled with event knowledge, job postings, groups to join, and so much more. In addition, many libraries offer the use of computers equipped with the internet.
The Detroit Public Library offers a huge range of events from giveaways of museum passes to book signings with authors. In addition, websites of libraries are another great resource for papers and reports.
Other libraries hold seminars and classes for all ages such as the Troy Public Library and the Baldwin Public Library in Birmingham.
The Undergrad Library at Wayne State is another awesome place to get informed. If you need a book for your class or are looking for a new apartment, there are plenty of ways to come across either one.
In addition to all these aspects of the library they do still have the usual: books. Your local library is the best place to try out the newest trendy bestseller without having to go buy it for its shelf price at Barnes and Noble. Not to mention they also offer special discounts to local attractions such as the Detroit Zoo, Detroit Institute of Arts and more.
Lastly, have you ever gone to the video store, hoping for a cheap evening in with a classic movie? You come to realize that not only is your classic movie four bucks, but you have that much in late fees, and you only get the thing for a day. At most local libraries, you can check out your old favorite movies, on both DVD and VHS, for half the price and get it for twice as long. Although, the selection consists of older releases, it is a great place to find old movies that don't leave such a hole in you pocket.
Libraries contain lots of information and more that is completely looked over. They don't have to be associated with boredom necessarily but can be a world of help when looking for trendy titles, things to do, or help in the financial department.
