Jack Spade has designed bags for men that are functional and fashionable. The hot, new fabric known as wax wear, is used on Spade's most popular bags.
This heavy duty canvas material is coated in wax, making it waterproof and incredibly durable.
"It has been a growing new market for us," said Karissa Foltyn, founder and buyer of the Birmingham boutique, Peasant. It took a while for men to warm up to the idea of carrying a bag, but once they do, they're sold!
Business professionals have always had their briefcases, but the idea of a purse used to be out of the question. The styles of Spade's bags are more of a mix between shoulder bags and briefcases. "A happy medium between the two" is how Foltyn puts it.
Although Spade has designed standard canvas and leather bags, the wax wear has been the most popular. Peasant has been carrying Spade's man bags for about two years, and is expecting a full shipment for this upcoming spring season.
