Give 'em a Break!
Okay, we've all done it, probably many times, for fashion. I'm talking about wearing those high heels that look amazing but have you wincing in pain with every step.
I'm not sure why we do this to ourselves, ladies, but we do and instead of listening to what our feet and legs are telling us, we just learn to live with it.
There are some positives to our friend the high heeled shoe. They do help our posture since they force our shoulders back and chest out and overall we stand up straighter.
They also accentuate our calves and make our legs look longer and leaner so we look taller. Not to mention, they just look good. You can't exactly wear a business suit with a pair of gym shoes, now can you?
Despite looking hot in a pair of dark jeans, if you wear high heels frequently you can do some serious damage to your feet and I've seen the pictures...trust me, they're nightmare-worthy.
Hammertoe, bunions, tendonitis, toenail problems, stress fractures, and joint pain in the ball of the foot, are all issues that can arise from prolonged high heel use, which you don't want.
To prevent even just the run of the mill sore feet, here are some tips that will help the next time you go shoe shopping:
But They're so Cute!
Have your feet re-measured
: As we age, our feet grow longer and wider so it's a good idea to get them measured every few years.
Get the right size: Not all sizes are created equal. Make sure that when you try them on they fit well, keeping in mind how narrow or wide your feet are. (Side note: contrary to popular belief, there is no "breaking in" period and shoes should feel good right from the start.)
