Help Kids in Need!
Hair is an important part of our identity. It's often the first thing other people see and judge us by on first glance. Whether long or short, curly or straight, spiked or shaved, we rely on our hair as part of our identity.

We laugh about bad haircuts and hair fads that have come and gone with the decades (crimped hair, anyone?). But when you're a kid facing hair loss, it can be tougher than you can imagine.

That's why a local organization, Wigs 4 Kids, is so important. Their focus is to fit children (and young people) with wigs specially designed for them to help improve self-esteem at an age when fitting in is most important.

For a donation of $800, you can Adopt-a-Kid and sponsor a child in need of a hair prosthesis. Everything is included that will help the child get back to a normal childhood that has been disrupted because of cancer, lupus, alopecia, or other disorders that can cause hair loss.

But of course the biggest resource, aside from monetary donations, is the actual hair that is donated. All of the wigs are made from real hair and then individually styled for the particular child. And all you need to donate is a ponytail of 10 inches of hair. It does take 12 ponytails of hair to create just one wig, so get your friends involved.

Other ways to donate to this amazing cause is something as simple as a gift certificate to Staples or greeting cards for the children's birthdays and such. Or donate your time and talent at their homestead in St. Clair Shores. Any way you decide to help will bring a smile to a child's face and that alone can be a huge reward.
