Highlighting Local Designers
Nestled near the corner of Joseph Campau and Caniff is something new and different to the area that is already well-known for awesome bars and excellent Polish dining and bakeries. Design 99 is a new retail space that sells experimental design and contemporary architecture.
Sound intimidating? Well, the husband and wife team of Gina Reichert and Mitch Cope want you to know that it's anything but.
"We're really trying to highlight local designers and local work and just put that in the context of contemporary design," says Gina. "The other aspect is about making contemporary design more accessible to the public, a public that it might not normally reach."
Gina and Mitch bring both elements to the table. Gina, originally from Cincinnati, studied architecture at Cranbrook and Mitch, originally from Detroit, studied fine arts at the College of Creative Studies. They wanted to bring something different to the table and make art and design more accessible to those who may think it a scary venture.
"People who wouldn't usually go out and hire an architect because they feel like, they've never been through the process before and it's kind of intimidating, or they wouldn't know where to begin, or there may be smaller projects with smaller budgets. We're trying to reach those people," says Gina.
Their contemporary architectural design may be just what you're looking for in order to create a new and different space for your home. Whether you want to get the creative juices flowing or want to redesign an office area, Gina says that there is a project for every budget, so don't be afraid to walk in for a chat.
