If you don't feel like your belongings are safe in your purse, try a new alternative - strap them in with a seatbelt! The trendy and unique "Motor City inspired" seatbelt bags are all the rage, here in Detroit.
Harvey Bags launched its first line of handbags in the late 1990's with inspiration from the automobile industry. The first line was given the name "The Detroit Collection," and they're now known nationwide and quite the commodity.
Imelda's Closet in downtown Birmingham has been carrying the Harvey seatbelt bags for eight years. They get one shipment a month, and sell out shortly thereafter. Co-owner Jayme Kirschner said, "we have people waiting for a call for the next shipment."
Harvey bags began with the traditional black design, and have since expanded their color options significantly, Kirschner told us: "Now there is a color for every season."
Although Imelda's receives monthly shipments and stocks a variety of colors, there are still many designs not in the store that are available upon special request: "We do all kinds of special orders for people," said Kirschner.
