Home Grown Scents!
Who doesn't love the scent that comes from a good candle?
Whether it be a mocha or an ocean breeze, candles come in every fragrance from spicy to sweet. Some smell so good you'd be tempted to find out what it's like to eat wax. I wouldn't advise that but I would advise a trip to the Candle Wick Shoppe in Ferndale.
It's a hidden gem that you may pass over if you're not careful. Look down as you walk down 9 mile and you'll see the Candle Wick written in the windows of this basement shop. And if you're lucky, the windows will be open letting out a pleasant waft of some of the most amazing scents.
"We're a small, little store and about 75% of our candles are made right here in Michigan or Ohio," said co-owner Terry Cicchetto, who opened the store with business partner Eric Paquette in July of 2007. "And a lot of my candles have stories behind why the people are making the candles."
Holiday Glow!
For example, Jan's Soy Candles began after Jan's husband couldn't work anymore and they needed the extra income. It's just another reason to get down to the Candle Wick.
If you're looking for a good gift to give someone special, Terry can put together a beautiful gift basket with whatever you want inside. "Everyone likes something different," he says. Even a leather jacket scent was popular among some.
Definitely stop by the Candle Wick the next time you're in Ferndale if for nothing more than to breathe in some of the most delectable scents your nose will ever feast on.
