Fashionably Frugal
Conveniently located on Main Street in Royal Oak, Pitaya is pure shopping bliss.
Offering trendy clothing at unexpected prices, the boutique is more than just pocket book friendly.
Owner Michael Mazor of Bloomington, Indiana says, "It's actually a very diverse selection for a boutique of its size. The clothes are trendy, fun, comfy and we also have great basics at very reasonable prices."
Named after the Mayan word for a beautiful fruit that grows on cacti, customers can expect the store to live up to its name. The shelves are lined with a variety of clothing arranged by color along with an assortment of shoes and accessories.
Michael says customers can expect something new every time they stop by and a friendly staff that will actually give honest opinions, as opposed to just trying to make a sale.
The store receives new merchandise every week -- "especially on Thursday and Friday," Michael notes, "and most of it is usually gone by the end of the weekend." He also estimates that 25 percent of the store's stock is made just for Pitaya.
Unique Styles
Now in its second year of operation, the Royal Oak location is one of ten nationwide stores, but it's the only Pitaya boutique in Michigan.
When asked about the location, Michael said, "I chose Royal Oak because it reminded me of the Broad Ripple area of Indianapolis, the site of my 2nd store.... and it was a great experience. I was hoping Royal Oak would turn out to be just as successful, and so far it has."
Some of Pitaya's stronger selling items can also be viewed and purchased online. A weekly e-mailing is sent out to notify customers about the store's newest items.
"We have a lot of happy customers, and requests every day to open shops in every corner of the country."
