Lovers Only Opens in Capitol Park

Lovers Only is Detroit’s newest burger spot, and its fast-casual style–with an upcoming walk-up window–is sure to make it one of Downtown Detroit’s most frequented spots for a quick, tasty meal.

The new burger joint is the latest project from the people behind Voyager, a seafood and oyster restaurant in Ferndale. The menu at Lovers Only is inspired by nostalgia, Southern flavors, and the experiences of co-chefs Justin Tootla and Jennifer Jackson. The name Lovers Only came out of the feeling proprietor Eli Boyer wants to convey throughout the restaurant with compassion and care. The team at Lovers Only said they’re thrilled to be a part of the Capitol Park neighborhood.

The burgers at Lovers Only are pasture-raised Michigan beef burgers, and options include The Bitter South, made with Comeback sauce, Emmentaler cheese, hash browns, and fried onions, and the Burlington, made with dijonnaise, lettuce, cheddar cheese sauce, twice-cooked onions, and pickle relish. Lovers Only also offers a vegetarian option called the Green Street, made with an impossible burger, white cheddar cheese, parsley/shallot butter, and iceberg lettuce.

The draft beers at Lovers Only include Stone Delicious IPA and Great Lakes Edmund Fitzgerald Porter, and they’ve also got three draft drinks on their menu- a House Punch for $7, a Spicy Margarita Soda for $8, and their Negroni for $8. They’ve also got basic beverages on the menu, like a gin & tonic, a vodka soda, and a rum & coke. Non-alcoholic beverages like a Lime Coriander Soda, a Basil Lemonade, a Mexican Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite are also on the menu.

Sandwiches at Lovers Only range run for $7 and $8 and include options like the Fast Eddie, made with loose meat, sharp cheddar, mayo mix, and shredded iceberg, and the Recession Dog, made with a Sy Ginsberg all-beef dog, and served Chicago-style with fries. The menu also offers Onion Rings and Smothered & Covered Fries. For a lighter option, Lovers Only’s salads include The Wedge, made with bacon, egg, chives, and blue cheese dressing, and The Maurice, made with swiss, turkey, ham, olives, pickles and Maurice dressing.

The space can seat about 70 guests in spacious booths and two-tops, and is located Downtown on Grand River Avenue. The vibe is mid-century modern-esque, with graphic wallpaper, wood paneling, and light-on-the-eyes pastel colors. When the weather breaks and we’re awarded with some warmth, the space will add a few additional spots outside on a patio.
