5 Things To Do This Weekend

The Spirit of Detroit is celebrating 60 years Saturday. Show your love for the D at these events this weekend.

Did you know: Detroit’s theater district is the second largest in the country, second only to New York City, boasting an impressive 13,000 seats within a two-block radius. Grab a seat this weekend and see On Your Feet at the Fisher Theatre, The King & I at the Fox Theatre, Birthday Candles at the Max M Fisher Music Center or The Summer King at the Detroit Opera House (you can also enter to win tickets to The Summer King).

The Movement Electronic Music Festival is only a couple weeks away and the official pre-party is Saturday night featuring Josh Wink at TV Lounge. Don’t forget to enter to win a pair of weekend passes to Movement and a night’s stay at Trumbull & Porter Hotel in Corktown. Friday night Trumbull & Porter is hosting another Cult Classic in the Courtyard – this week’s feature is Trainspotting.

Get ready for patio parties in the Cass Corridor this weekend! Over 30 shops are participating in the special Love, Midtown event. Put on your walking shoes and get ready to shop, eat and drink all day Saturday.

Make your reservations now and spend Saturday night at Midtown’s new Willis Show Bar. The sleek old school bar gives you a reason to get dressed up. Just like the ‘good old days’ you can enjoy a stiff drink and a night of live entertainment.

Willis isn’t the only new kid on the block, here are a few places opening this weekend:

  • Brome Modern Eatery: Detroit Lions Ziggy Ansah will be greeting guests at downtown’s new two-story burger bar
  • The Commons: MACC Development opens its long-waited coffee shop/laundromat in Detroit’s 48214
  • Grand Marketplace: Grandmont Rosedale is getting a new pop-up space for local makers and the kick-off party is Saturday
