The Detroit Roller Derby is back with the Championship bout!
The Detroit Pistoffs will face off against the D-Funk Allstars on March 18th in Detroit Roller Derby’s (DRD) Championship game. Both teams have been training hard for the past several months in hopes of taking home the acclaimed title and the “Olive” trophy. Hundreds of people are expected to come out to the Masonic Temple to cheer on their favorite skaters in the final home team game of the season.
Detroit Men’s Roller Derby will warm up the crowd with the first game of the night. They will battle it out against the Cleveland Guardians who are making the trek to the Motor City to skate in the historic Masonic Temple drill hall.
Detroit Roller Derby will also be collecting items for people currently undergoing cancer treatments at the Championship bout. It’s the vision of D-Funk Allstar skater, Brazen Kane. She’s been gathering things like fleece blankets, warm socks, head wraps, applesauce cups, crossword puzzles and hard candies for her “Chemo Comfort Bags” since 2013. That’s when she became inspired by a friend’s mom who was carrying the comforts of home to her long chemotherapy treatments in a grocery bag.
