Gems of Detroit is the largest annual fundraising event for Detroit Cristo Rey High School. The 12th annual Viva Gems of Detroit ® will be a Cinco de Mayo inspired fiesta held on Friday, May 8, 2020 at Eastern Market in Shed 3. The evening will feature food and drinks from local restaurants, live music, silent auction and approximately 800 guests coming to support the school.
Detroit Cristo Rey High School offers a private school education to students who couldn’t otherwise afford one and currently enrolls 335 students. The most distinctive feature about Detroit Cristo Rey High School is that students spend four days each week in the classroom studying college-preparatory core requirements and one day each week participating in our Corporate Work Study Program. Students are able to gain real-life work experience in entry level jobs at leading companies such as General Motors, FCA, DTE, Magna, PwC and Beaumont Hospitals. The Corporate Work Study Program provides a real-life work experience for every student. Through this business experience, they build the knowledge, skills, and self-confidence to be successful in higher education, in the workplace and in life.
