The Detroit Greenways Coalition is organizing a 28 mile Joe Louis Greenway bike ride on Sunday June 24th that will start at 8:30am. The objective of the ride is to create more awareness and raise money to help get the Joe Louis Greenway built.
This first annual Joe Louis Greenway bike ride will be limited to 75 donating participants. Participants must register by clicking the “Register Now” button on this page.
Participants are expected to be able to maintain a 12 mph pace while riding. Participants will receive a high quality commemorative bike water bottle at the start of the ride.
Support for Joe Louis Greenway ride is coming from the Detroit Wheel House who is providing a sag vehicle, the Oloman Cafe who will serve refreshments and 6 Detroit experienced sweep volunteers who will help riders navigate the route.
The 28 mile ride will utilize existing Joe Louis Greenway bike lanes and the Dequindre Cut. The Detroit River Walk will not be used because of the number and speed of the riders. Road ways such as Atwater and Oakman Blvd., that travel along the Detroit River Walk and the planned Detroit Terminal Railroad off-road pathway, will be utilized for the remainder of the route.
