Rafael Payare conducts Gustav Mahler’s savage and sublime Fifth Symphony, famed for its heart-wrenching Adagietto. “Payare coaxed an enormous variety of timbre from the musicians, with cut-your-finger sharpness in attacks throughout Mahler,” wrote the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Also, DSO concertmaster Yoonshin Song plays the “Turkish” Violin Concerto, the last Mozart would write, at the age of just 19.
