Sociologist Simone Browne’s acclaimed book Dark Matters: On the Surveillance of Blackness examines surveillance in relation to the history of transatlantic slavery and its afterlives. These themes, informed in part by Browne’s research, are central to Danielle Dean’s multimedia installation True Red Ruin, on view at MOCAD. Come hear Browne and Dean in conversation about their projects and the different ways in which scholarly and artistic work can ignite critical dialogs and social consciousness.
