Guide to Cinco De Mayo in Southwest Detroit
Fun fact: Cinco De Mayo commemorates the Mexican Army’s unlikely victory over the French Empire at the Battle of Puebla, on May 5, 1862.
You can use that bit of trivia while sipping margaritas and chowing down on tamales this weekend. While plenty of places are having parties for Cinco De Mayo, there’s no better place to enjoy Mexican food than in Mexicantown. Take a trip to Southwest Detroit on Cinco De Mayo and watch the 55th Annual Cinco De Mayo Parade – it kicks off at noon from 23rd and travels 2 miles down Vernor Highway to Clark Park for a post-parade party.
After the fiesta, head to Beacon Park and experience Los Trompos, a new international and interactive art exhibit from Mexico City.
