The building on West Lafayette Street Downtown that once housed the Detroit News now houses something different, but still news related, called the Press Room Cafe & Market.

The press-themed eatery offers breakfast sandwiches, smoothies, burgers, chicken sandwiches, pasta, pizza and much more. Fabio Viviani, of Top Chef fame, is leading the menu with options like the Shaved Pork Sandwich, with sweet and spicy gastrique, and made with house cured pickles and fried onions, all between a grilled cheese sandwich made on Avalon Motown Multigrain bread. You can also order their ½ lb Fresh Ground Burger with aged white cheddar, smoked slab bacon and BLT slaw, all on a brioche bun. They’ll even let you get creative here and make up your own version of their ⅓ lb burger or grilled chicken sandwich.

The sides portion of the menu is a big one, with tasty options like Cajun Pork Rinds, Malt Vinegar Steak Fries, Poutine, Fingerling Potato Salad, Sweet Potato Fries and a whole lot more.

The menu also features deli sandwiches, like the Grilled Portobello and Press Room Reuben, and salads, like the Southern Grilled Caesar and the Moody Bleu Cheese. Soups, pasta and pizza are also available. Grab-and-go options are also part of the market for those in a rush.

Press Room Market and Cafe also has an Intelligentsia coffee bar and pastries to match from the Detroit favorite Avalon Bakery.
