Sneak Peek: Lumen Detroit
Lumen Detroit prepares to light up downtown Detroit this spring
Lumen Detroit, located Downtown in Beacon Park, is set to open up their sliding glass doors to the world the first week of April. The new restaurant will offer a variety of food, beer, and wine to Detroit food enthusiasts. The menu promises eclectic American fare with beer and cocktails to pair.
The space seats 125 inside, with giant glass doors opening up onto their patio, which is set to seat another 150 guests. That’s not it, though- Lumen Detroit’s grand staircase will take you up to their roof, which is green and sustainable, and seats another 45 guests. Nearly every seat at Lumen Detroit is bound to offer up views of the beautiful new park or the city skyline itself.
You can start on snacks at Lumen Detroit by choosing their Chicken Wings, topped with everything bagel seasoning, their Crab Cakes, or their Mac and Cheese. Fresh salads and house made soups will also be offered daily. The main menu features and exciting twist on Steak and Frites, served with Béarnaise butter, and also Pei Mussels served three different ways- with a choice of Arrabbiata, white wine and chorizo, or green curry. Prices range from $6 to $27, with most entrees in between the $14 to $18 range. The space is starting out with dinner service and the team expects to expand their menu for lunch and brunch later in the year.
“There are so many great things happening right now and we are so glad to be part of the Detroit restaurant scene,” said co-owner, Norm LePage. “We’re really hoping to provide a dining experience unlike anything in the city.”
Norm and Bonnie LePage own and operate the new restaurant alongside their son Scott and his wife Susanne LePage. Lumen Detroit joins the proprietors’ other signature restaurants, including Clubhouse BFD in Rochester Hills, Big Rock Chophouse, and Griffin Claw Brewing Company in Birmingham.
The restaurant’s beer menu is Belgian influenced and features 12 on tap, with seven of them coming from Griffin Claw Brewing Company, three from other Michigan craft breweries, and then one special not-so-local beer, Delirium Tremens (it’s Norm’s favorite beer).
The restaurant’s menu also offers five house cocktails, ranging in price from $10 to $12, and capturing a prohibition and Gatsby-like vibe. The wine list features 20 wines by both glass and bottle, and there’s also a captain’s list of 20 high end bottles available.
Lumen (Latin for light), pays homage to the spirit of Detroit. The team behind the restaurant wanted to come up with a name that not only tied into DTE’s innovative Beacon Park, but also one that paid honorable tribute to the city.
