It’s the moment we’ve all been waiting for…warmer weather, baseball and a whole lot of outdoor festivities! And to encourage us to all get outside and enjoy Detroit, we have a whole slew of new places to check out in the city.

Atomic Chicken
Atomic Chicken plans to open up their new and second location in the Detroit area in New Center this spring. At Atomic Chicken, you can order chicken by the piece, chicken sandwiches, chicken and waffles, sides, desserts and more. Try Atomic Chicken’s The Ginger, which is a chicken and waffle dish, made with Detroit’s own Vernors and a sweet garlic marinade.

Detroit Fleat
If you wait in lines for food trucks or look to try out new ones in Campus Martius or Eastern Market, you’ve got another dining option coming early this summer. Detroit Fleat, Metro Detroit’s first food truck park, with an additional bar referred to as a boozery, is set to bring something new to Ferndale. The team behind the innovative space took inspiration from different cities, with Portland being a main one, where food truck parks and food pods are a regular and welcome occurrence every day.

Honey Butter Fried Chicken pop-ups
On two special occasions in April, you’re able to try food from one of Chicago’s restaurants, Honey Butter Fried Chicken. This sustainable food concept is coming in brunch form for a day to Russell Street Deli, and in a more specialized form for a five course dinner at Grey Ghost. Russell Street Deli will host a brunch with fried chicken sandwiches with candied jalapeno mayo, in addition to fried chicken with honey butter and bourbon maple syrup, all on top of the famous Russell Street Deli waffle. Look for more dressed up options at Grey Ghost, with fried chicken strips with smoked paprika aioli and honey butter chips, and rossejat de fideos with shrimp and honey roasted cauliflower.

Catch Honey Butter Fried Chicken at Russell Street Deli on April 22, and at Grey Ghost on April 23. Honey Butter Fried Chicken pop-up, Russell Street Deli (2465 Russell) & Grey Ghost (47 Watson), Facebook

New outdoor pedestrian plaza
Right in between Downtown and Greektown, Detroiters can now spend time in the new outdoor pedestrian plaza. The outdoor space is right out front of three of Downtown’s hangouts, Buffalo Wild Wings, Baltimore Bar & Grill and The Wild, and the space was made with enough room for patio seating for all three establishments.

This consignment and resale clothing and accessories shop will soon have a permanent home in Eastern Market. The shop prides itself on independent, designer, vintage and functional items and they’ll be in good store-front company with SMPLFD, Detroit Hustles Harder and Inner State Gallery as neighbors.

At La Pecora Nera (the Black Sheep in Italian), you can get your groceries after you’re done with gelato, or maybe your sub, or maybe your coffee. They’re new to Downtown and they serve lunch and dinner, with unique Italian subs, coffee and gelato, and groceries like bread, cheese and other produce.
