SuperHappySushi, an original concept rolled out by the creative individuals of the Detroit Optimist Society (The Sugar House, Wright & Co., The Peterboro, Honest John’s), is now open for sushi business inside MOCAD’s Cafe 78.

Chef Rob Lee, previously of Townhouse Detroit, joined forces with the Society and they all decided that sushi doesn’t have to be uptight and serious, but it does have to be tasty, accessible and interesting. And with that, SuperHappySushi was born.

You can take your pick from the appetizers portion of the menu with options like the SuperHappySushi Miso Soup, Edamame or Cucumber Salad. The sushi menu is packed with sushi roll options including traditional rolls (Salmon Roll, Tuna Roll, Yellowtail Roll) in addition to more dressed up ones like the Torched Salmon or Seared Albacore.

Special SuperHappySushi cocktails include the Shiso Fancy Drink, made with gin, ginger, lemon, Shiso leaf and soda, and the the Hidden Fortress, made with Batavia Arrack and hibiscus. The beverage menu also includes Moscow Mules, Pineapple Daiquiris, beers and ciders, wines and sakes. Non-alcoholic beverages include black or green tea, coffee, iced matcha and plenty more.

The space is open when Cafe 78 is: Wednesday and Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. and on Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

A brunch menu is on the horizon and as soon as we learn of it, we’ll let you know. The space is located at 4454 Woodward Ave., inside of Cafe 78.
