The Griot, a new vinyl music lounge in Midtown, is the old-school creation of Detroit entertainer Karen Addison.

The new space is an intimate music listening lounge that seats 50 guests inside and another 20 outside on the patio. The music collection is impressive with over 2,500 vinyl records, including a special dedication to Detroit with a full catalog from Detroit producer, J Dilla.

Addison, who you may know from Comedy Central, BET’s Comic View or Def Comedy Jam, owns The Griot with her husband Scott Boswell and Jonathan Taylor. Together, they’ve created a space for visitors to come and listen to anything from blues, jazz, and rap, to rock, R&B and more. And the best part is that you can listen at your leisure with a glass of your choice of signature cocktails. They’ll even have pop-up dinners from guest chefs from time to time.

The Griot is her first establishment and it’s open Wednesday through Saturday at 66 E. Forest St., Suite B.
